FROG Amps was born in 2010 from the chance meeting of two complementary visions: Nick, a rock guitarist obsessed with AC/DC, and Stefano, a purist when it comes to electronics, studio gear, and tube amplification.
In the beginning, it was just a matter of routine maintenance and small modifications on Nick’s amp heads. But curiosity and a drive to experiment quickly took over. This led to the idea for their first actual prototype: an overly ambitious project designed to pack the two "sacred" sounds of Marshall*— the SLP 1959* and the JCM 800*— into a single head.
The result? Despite their immense effort and the use of top-tier, premium materials, it was disappointing. It just wasn't the sound they had in mind.
That setback marked the beginning of the real challenge.
🇬🇧 The Quest for the "British Sound" Essence
It was September 2010. Two long years followed, dedicated to an obsessive search for materials and the comparative study of countless vintage amplifiers built between 1968 and 1976. The goal was to decode the Essence, Personality, and mysterious allure of that "British Sound" chased by rock guitarists all over the world.
We spent days and weeks testing tubes, capacitors, transformers, cabinets, and speakers. Entire nights were consumed analyzing technical data, layouts, and circuits. Along the way, Nick met Luca Cesaroni of Secret Efx*. It was the ultimate turning point: FROG became the only company in the world to integrate the highly acclaimed SECRET 1 LTD*— one of the best and most sought-after boutique overdrives on the market— directly into its amplifiers.
⚡ The Debut of Legacies
By February 2012, the first Marquee MMCCIII 100W was ready. Inspired by the legendary JMP Master Volume 2203* series, it instantly won everyone over with its rich tone and innovations built for both the stage and the studio. The FROG Dual Master quickly became a signature feature, alongside an effects loop that remained completely transparent and respectful of the original signal.
Shortly after came its younger sibling, the Marquee MCMLIX – Secret Inside: an innovative "Plexi" head featuring the Dual Master, Effects Loop, and the built-in Secret 1 LTD circuit. An incredible head for lovers of 1970s tones. The heads and their matching 4x12 cabinets made their official debut on October 21, 2012, at the ARISTOCRATS Live at Revolution event in Molvena (VI).
🚀 Today: Uncompromising Tools for Finer Palates
From those first waves of approval, a growing and enthusiastic word-of-mouth buzz was born. Today, FROG Amps is an evolved reality, designing custom solutions for demanding musicians, studio or live audio professionals, as well as gear enthusiasts who demand the ultimate tone within their own four walls.
Our catalog has constantly evolved:
- Tube amplifier heads ranging from 36W and 44/22W up to 100W and 120W powerhouses with MIDI control.
- Handcrafted cabinets in 1x12, 2x12, and 4x12 configurations.
- Professional powercords, speaker, instrument, and microphone cables built for maximum quality, fidelity, and performance.
- The innovative EVO:IR System.
- A brand-new line of boutique pedals (including Preamps, Boosts, Overdrives, Distortions, and the famous Nikidizer).
The passion for experimentation and the artisanal approach remain exactly the same as when we started. Today, we also rely on the technical contributions of two additional team members, Matteo Spiro and Nik Messori, who have brought vital energy to the Pedal department and the development of new amplifiers, respectively.
We are proud to have built a true community. Today, THE FAMILY includes hundreds of extraordinary musicians who use our gear every single day, constantly inspiring us with their music and ideas.
